In-Home Services
Early intervention programming is essential for children on the Autism Spectrum. Research has shown improved outcomes for children when programming is:
- Individualized
- Delivered in naturalized settings
- Focused on generalization of skills
- Language based
Our focus is on structuring daily routines in the home and in the community with professionals trained in:
- Autism
- Postive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS)
- Structured Teaching
- ABA Strategies
Metro West staff will provide opportunities for parents to learn to anticipate behavior changes in their children and program accordingly by addressing environmental factors, sensory input and peer and adult interactions and expectations. Structured teaching is the hallmark of in-home programming using a variety of schedules to help the child navigate their environment independently and be able to anticipate changes in their daily routines. Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) is implemented along with structured teaching to better understand the "why" behind the behavior (acting out, anxiety, stress). PBIS allows the parent and provider to plan and pair preferred activities with non-preferred activities so the child can again move through their day as independently as possible. Structured teaching and PBIS help children regulate emotions, increase independent skills, achieve at a higher level academically and decrease anxiety and stress around non-preferred activities and unfamiliar environments.
Our highly trained staff will work on specific goals concerning behavior and routines with the child and family. Our experience has shown when parents are an integral part of the child's training, generalization to other settings increases along with parent confidence and satisfaction. Parents who have participated in in-home programming have seen an increase in opportunities to go into the community without typical meltdowns or rigid behaviors displayed by their child. We supply materials that can be used in the home or community and provide on-going support and tips for the family to implement across settings. The time commitment is 6-8 hours per week with the majority of sessions occurring after school and in the early evening. Please contact our office if you have questions. One of our staff members will be delighted to visit with you about our in-home services!
